Santa Clarita Sports Report – September 22, 2015:
College of the Canyons 3-0 record has earned them a tie with Long Beach for the #2 ranking in the California Community College Regional State Football Poll – Southern CA National Division. They are one of only seven remaining unbeaten teams.
Boys and Girls Cross Country
In impressive fashion, the Foothill League boasts the #1 CIF-SS Division II teams in both boys and girls cross country. The West Ranch Wildcats boys cross country team remain #1 after their effort in the Woodbridge Cross Country Classic on Saturday. They next compete along with the Foothill League schools (including #9 Saugus) in the first league meet of the season on Thursday.
The Lady Centurions of Saugus also claim the top spot in Division II, remaining the dominant program in the Santa Clarita Valley. They, too, will compete in the first Foothill League meet Thursday, on a quest for another State Championship.
One team to watch as Foothill League play begins on Thursday is the Hart Indians, as they crack the top ten in Division II at #9. They open their league schedule against West Ranch.
Now on to Today’s games:
The #1 ranked CIF-SS Division 5AA Santa Clarita Christian Cardinals take on California City tonight at SCCHS.
SCCHS isn’t the only team making waves in Santa Clarita, as #9 Trinity will have something to say in the Heritage League. The Knights (6-1) travel to Grace Brethren tonight as they prepare for a weekend tournament at Eastside High School.
Los Angeles Dodgers
Don’t look now, but the NL West leading Dodgers have lost three straight home games for the first time this season, dropping last night’s contest to the Diamondbacks, 8-4. While they still have a comfortable seven game lead with thirteen games remaining, now is not the time to get complacent, given their recent struggles in the postseason.
Los Angeles looks to rebound tonight when they send Alex Wood to the mound. First pitch is at 7:10pm.
