The No. 3 College of the Canyons women’s volleyball team opened its Western States Conference, South schedule with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-11) victory over visiting Antelope Valley College on Friday.
Canyons (11-2, 1-0) overwhelmed the Marauders (4-7, 0-1) with a .291 hitting percentage, nine aces, and six total blocks.
The Cougars were led by freshman outside hitter Emily Bible who posted a team-high nine kills and .350 hitting percentage. Bible also led the match with 14 digs and three aces.
The middle blockers for Canyons continued to play well for head coach Lisa Hooper, as the group combined for a .563 hitting percentage as well as three total blocks.
COC freshman setter Emma Levanen led the team with 14 assists and four kills on five attempts.
Canyons held AVC to a negative hitting percentage, which in turn allowed the Cougars to dominate the match.
COC returns to action at 6 p.m. Wednesday Oct. 7, as the Cougars travel to face West L.A.
