SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – No. 11 Biola spoiled The Master’s College women’s soccer team’s senior day as the Eagles beat the Lady Mustangs 1-0 on Saturday at Reese Field.
With the loss, TMC’s 2015 record moved to 7-9-1 and 4-5 in GSAC play.
The Eagles’ game-winning goal came in the 88th minute when Biola’s Kayla White scored in unassisted fashion.
“Congrats to Biola,” commented Lady Mustang head coach Curtis Lewis. “They are having a great year and they found a way to win today. I was really pleased with the way we played and proud of our girls energy and effort against a good opponent. We made a poor decision with less than two minutes, and Kayla White hit a fantastic shot to win the game for them.”
Potentially playing on Reese Field for the last time of their collegiate careers, TMC’s Gabby Arnone, Mackenzie Taylor, and Tara Struiksma were all honored before Saturday’s match for their faithful years of service to the Lady Mustangs both on and off the pitch.
“Tara Struiksma was great again for us as center back, but it was a bummer that we couldn’t get a win for her and the two injured seniors. However, I feel our team played with no regrets. We were obviously not perfect in front of the net, but tonight we created enough chances to win this game.”
Collectively, TMC outshot the Eagles 11-9 and posted four shots on goal. Notably, Kaylee Poffek led TMC’s offensive efforts by posting three shots and two shots on goal.
Now, the Lady Mustangs look to their regular-season finale when they hit the road for an 11:00 a.m. match at Hope International next week.
“I’m proud of TMC soccer, and things will go our way sometime this year. We have created a must-win situation on Saturday at HIU to make playoffs, so essentially, our playoffs start next weekend. It is one and done now, so I’m hoping our girls rise to the occasion and serve our seniors well by giving them more games to play.”
The last time TMC and Hope squared off was on October 12, 2014 where the Lady Mustangs beat the Royals 2-0 at Reese Field.
