SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Master’s College men’s golf team finished its fall schedule on Tuesday by placing fourth out of field of 11 teams after carding a collective score of 4-over 868 (288-290-290) at the CSUSM Fall Classic.
Finishing first overall was tournament host CSU San Marcos who shot 12-under 852 (285-277-290).
Leading the way for TMC was Joey Downey who finished tied for sixth overall at 4-under 212 (70-73-69). Blake McPherson’s consistent play tied him at 17th overall by carding a final score of 1-over 217 (74-70-73). Also finishing in the tournament’s top 25 was Josh Delo by shooting 219 (70-75-74) at the conclusion the two-day event.
Notably, Nicholas Latta competed as an individual and finished the event with a phenomenal score of 213 (70-72-71).
“With respect to the team as a whole, I feel that we are very close to putting it all together,” commented TMC head coach Jason Semelsberger. “Our goals are to prepare to compete for a national championship next year, and Lord willing, we will continue to progress towards that. We are very excited to see Joey Downey’s continued consistent play as well as Nick Latta’s standout performance as an individual. I know the guys are excited to have the opportunity to train and we will continue to work hard over the offseason to prepare for the spring.”
Now, the Mustangs will enjoy a lengthy break before competing again February 7-8 at the CSUSM Cougar Invite. The two-day event will take place at the Shadowridge Country Club in Vista.
