D.I.V.E.R.T. Task Force
The Domestic Violence Center of SCV has teamed up with the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station and other local agencies to create a new task force called D.I.V.E.R.T (Domestic Intervention Education Resource Team) to help combat domestic violence within the Santa Clarita Valley. The new website,
Santa-Clarita.com/DIVERT will be a “one-stop shop” for survivors of domestic violence and their families to seek help. “Whether someone is a victim of domestic violence, is afraid for their life, or they know someone who is in a family violence situation, the time is now to act and the DIVERT website provides the help victims and their families need right now,” explains Captain Johnson.
“It’s a fact that one out of four women experience domestic violence during their lifetime. At the Domestic Violence Center of the SCV, we offer everything from a 24-hour crisis hotline, temporary restraining orders and emergency shelter for survivors and their children, to counseling, parenting classes and support groups,” explains Linda Davies, Executive Director of the Domestic Violence Center of the SCV and a member of the DIVERT Task Force. “Women who need help and don’t know where to turn should call us first,” she added. It’s that time of year again! Yes, time to be thinking of Santa Claus, especially if you would like to arrange a personal visit from the Jolly Old Elf and/or Mrs. Claus for your home, block or business party during the upcoming holiday season.
The Domestic Violence Center of Santa Clarita Valley is continuing this very unique Rent-A-Santa Fundraiser again this year to assist them in supporting survivors of domestic violence in Santa Clarita.
The Domestic Violence Center of Santa Clarita Valley was founded in 1983 and has offered advocacy, shelter, therapy and support groups to thousands of survivors in need. Our objective will always be to stop domestic violence, build self-reliance and save lives through intervention, prevention and education.
You can rent Santa, Mrs. Claus and/or elf for a donation of $100 for up to one hour or $150 for up to two hours. The proceeds will help Domestic Violence Center of SCV.
Most visits will be scheduled December 1 through Christmas Eve. We will make every effort to accommodate Christmas Eve visits.
Call our Head Elf, Barbara Cochran, at 661-251-1352 to reserve your Santa and/or Mrs. Claus and elf now! Our schedule, as always, will fill up rapidly.
We would appreciate your support of the DVC and its activities in our community as well as providing you with a very unique opportunity to delight family and friends.

Taproot Foundation Grant
I had two goals upon assuming Board Presidency; Board Development and Strategic Plan establishment for the DVC. Linda (DVC Executive Director) found The Taproot Foundation grant which moves both goals forward by engaging the Board of Directors and Executive Director in the first few phases of a Strategic Plan process. Professionals in related fields provide pro-bono planning and research time to assess the current success of our programs, pointing to how future growth might occur.
The Taproot Foundation connects nonprofits and social change organizations with passionate, skilled volunteers who share their expertise pro-bono. Through their programs, business professionals deliver marketing, strategy, HR, and IT solutions that organizations need to achieve their missions.
The Taproot grant is valued at $70,000 in pro-bono services!
Support from DVC’s Taproot Team lasts four to six months, and culminates in published findings about DVC’s current capabilities. The findings also highlight areas of work that need attention, improvement or development. Some of the information collected toward that end are best practices of high performing organizations that provide similar services, and interviews with key DVC members, volunteers, staff and partners.
The findings generated by this grant will allow the Board of Directors to determine the best path forward over the next five to ten years. As such, the Taproot grant is a tremendous benefit to our agency; saving much time and energy while propelling us toward a brighter future.

Purple Walk Success!
Our 4th annual Purple Walk of Strength 5k was a success! We had 180 participants this year and raised $5,000!!! Thank you so much to all those who came out, walked, and supported the DVC! Next year will be even bigger and better!
LGBTQ Training
Intimate partner violence (IPV) is prevalent in all types of relationships. At the DVC, we asked an advocate from the LA LGBT Center to come to the Savia Center and conduct a training for our advocates. Upon completion of the training we will be able to recognize the prevalence of LGBTQ intimate partner violence, analyze and recognize various tactics used to establish power and control in LGBTQ IPV (intimate partner violence) and assess and remedy barriers to services and safety for LGBTQ survivors of IPV. JCI (Junior Chamber International) Santa Clarita will be throwing a party for our families and clients at the Ice Station! Building Bare Necessities
Our Senior Girl Scout, Ana, is still working hard on her Gold Award Project of raising money to help the DVC of SCV build a second bathroom! Ana’s goal is to raise $7,000 – $10,000 to help us fund this project! So far our County Supervisor, Michael Antonovich, has donated $500 and Lowes and Home Depot have donated store gift cards. Giving Thanks
Every year for Thanksgiving, Castaic Water donates enough turkeys for our clients and Boston Scientific donates all the fixings for side dishes for our clients so that our clients may have a very Happy Thanksgiving dinner with their loved ones. A VERY big thanks to Castaic Water and Boston Scientific to continuously supporting the DVC of SCV each year! Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!
