haggen[KHTS] – Haggen Food and Pharmacy has announced that a U.S. bankruptcy court confirmed the sale of the stores Saugus location to Albertsons.

The Haggen location in Saugus, which opened in June, will be closing Thursday, Dec. 3. 2015.

Albertsons LLC bought the majority of Haggen’s locations, picking up 30 of the 47 stores that were sold at auction last month, according to a news release.

Other buyers included Stater Bros. Markets, Sprouts Farmers Market, Smart and Final Stores LLC, Tawa Inc. and Yoke’s Foods Inc.
Haggen filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy in early September, closing several of its locations to “reorganize around its core profitable stores,” many of them in the Pacific Northwest.

The closures include Nevada, Oregon, California, Arizona and Washington.

Haggen second location in Santa Clarita on Mcbean Parkway was closed months after its grand opening in April.

The west coast grocer will receive up to $215 million from its existing lenders to continue its day-to-day operations and the flow of merchandise during the sale process, according to a news release.

In an effort to expand the company, Albertsons is preparing an initial public offering of its common stock, according to a prospectus released by the grocer on Monday.

Albertsons will offer 65 million shares of common stock, expecting an initial public offering price of between $23 and $26 per share, according to the document.

Albertsons is one of the largest food and drug retailers in the U.S., operating 2,196 stores in 33 states.

I wonder what is going to take over the Ralph’s that closed on Lyons & Orchard Village months ago.

  7. Good, now I’ll go there to shop.?but Albertsons has to be competitive too!

  8. Sylvia Shermer we need another Staters out here. Can you talk to your sources ?

  9. Patty Ann Patty Ann says:

FCC had Albertson’s close/ sell buildings before the merger because it’s illegal to have an monopoly. Well Albertsons bought back the same buildings. Doesn’t make sense.

    • Mark says:

It was the FTC. The idea was to increase competition by bringing in new grocers independent of Albertsons-Safeway-Vons. In some areas they represent a good number of stores & by allowing them to continue operations, they could squeeze out the few competitors in those regions. The problem was that Haggens was probably ill-prepared to expand from 18 locations to 146. The hedgefund that bought into Haggens & financed their expansion may have had alternate ideas according to rumors. At the least, Haggens bit off much more than it should have. With the FTC out of the picture, Alberstons will recover some profitable stores which according to Haggens’ CEO were all duds.

  10. How long was Haggens even open?

  11. Sara Scott Sara Scott says:

    What about mc bean

  12. Amy Miller Amy Miller says:

Thank god we will have a grocery store over here!

  13. Stacy Grover Stacy Grover says:

Will it be an Albertsons or a Vons?

  14. Stater Bros would have been nice

  15. I wish the Trader Joe’s moved there so it could have large aisles and lots of parking. : )

    • Mary Haskell Mary Haskell says:

Best comment ever. trader joes made a bad choice moving there. Worst parking lot even before they moved in. It’s like playing Frogger trying to get in and out of your car

      • Mark says:

Trader Joes store format is too small for most modern grocery stores. Many have poor parking too, they must look specifically for those locations

    • Scott Hobberchalk says:

      Great Idea !

    • Laura Keith Laura Keith says:

Yeah. Why does every trader Joes have sucky parking ?

You would think at some point they would realize that they have enough volume to get a bigger store and decent parking.
The Pasadena parking sucked. The Burbank one too and Santa Clarita.

It’s like they do it on purpose

I just want to go to your store and park in your lot one time without having to wait for a space defend the space get in get out and then not get the hurry up stink eye from someone while I load my car.

  16. After living in this valley on the saugus side for more than 30 years we will not shop at Albertosons on bouquet anymore. Every time we go there they have expired items on their shelfs such as milk(constantly).

  17. Irma Blanco Irma Blanco says:

    I want Von’s back!

  18. Same in quartz hill.store sucked and was originally an Albertsons.

  19. I was told this week by an Albertson’s employee that it will reopen as Vons.

  20. Smart and Final is moving into ours in Quartz Hill.

  21. Albertsons. .overpriced.
Too bad its not another ralphs!

  22. Debbie Emma Debbie Emma says:

    It was Vons before tho

  23. Albertsons has a good deli….!!!

  24. Bring back Von’s !!!

  25. I’d be more partial to a Stater Brothers myself or Food 4 Less. Better prices.

  26. Chuckie says:

And this was the plan from the beginning. To win approval for the Vons,Albertsons merger the FCC made them sell off stores. It was all smoke and mirrors.

  27. lucky for the screwed employees…

  28. Jeanne says:

    I wanted Stater Brothers too!
I have to drive from Saugus over to Newhall to shop at “Stater Brothers” every week.

“Albertsons” is too expensive. Food for less is not a nice store. “Walmart” gets too much food from China.

  29. Samuel de Haro Vanessa DH

  30. I was hoping it was going to be stater bros.

  31. Vanessa DH Vanessa DH says:

Otra veeeeeeez Yamile De Haro Samuel de Haro
