Stevenson Ranch: Zone 3, Public Safety and Crime Prevention Information for the week of 11/30/15 -12/06/15
Hello Stevenson Ranch, here is your weekly report:

An armed robbery occurred on the 25800 block of The Old Rd. Employees of the store noticed a Hispanic male adult attempting to cut the security cable off a display item. When contacted by the employees, the suspect displayed a hand gun which he had in his pocket. He then took an employee’s cell phone from the counter and left the location in an unknown direction. No arrest was made.

A burglary occurred on the 24900 block of Constitution Ave. Person(s) unknown went into the victim’s home and stole her silver wrist watch valued at $6,000.00 and her prescription medications. The victim stated that her front door was locked, but that she found it open when she returned home. There were no signs of forced entry.

A burglary shoplifting occurred on the 25400 block of The Old Rd. A female adult selected several items from the store, then tried to return them for a cash refund, even though she had not paid for the items. She was arrested for burglary.

A vehicle burglary occurred on the 25300 block of The Old Rd. Person(s) unknown entered the victim’s vehicle and stole a deli meat scale. The victim stated that his vehicle was locked. There were no signs of forced entry.

A grand theft shoplifting occurred on the 24900 block of Pico Cyn Rd. A male adult exited the store with a ‘Gibson’ brand acoustic guitar valued at $2,100.00 which he did not pay for. No arrest was made.

A shoplifting occurred on the 25400 block of The Old Rd. A male adult attempted to leave the store with an item he did not pay for. He was arrested for petty theft.

A shoplifting occurred on the 25400 block of The Old Rd. A male adult exited the store with a television that he did not pay for. When contacted by loss prevention outside the store, the suspect returned the television, then left the location in his vehicle.

Tip of the Week: Using Public Wi-Fi

Many businesses, especially coffee shops and home improvement stores, offer free Wi-Fi as a courtesy to their guests. Though this is a nice convenience, caution should be used when taking advantage of public Wi-Fi. The public Wi-Fi does not offer the same levels of security that your personal Wi-Fi does. There have been reported cases of identity theft in which someone was ordering items or paying bills on line, and someone within the public Wi-Fi service intercepted the information and used it to make fraudulent purchases or withdraw money from the victim’s accounts. Public Wi-Fi is a nice convenience, but never use public Wi-Fi for any type of on-line purchases of personal banking. Wait until you can use your own Wi-Fi at home, or the Wi-Fi of someone you trust who has proper security measures in place.
