The Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons will kick off the New Year with a live stage performance of Dr. Seuss’ “The Cat in the Hat” on Sunday, Jan. 17.
Based on the popular Dr. Seuss children’s book of the same title, “The Cat in the Hat” stage production is an exciting show filled to the brim with clever rhymes, physical comedy and lots of laughter, providing audiences of all ages a chance to relive this timeless, imaginative performance.
True to the original story, the stage performance tells the tale of Sally and her brother who find themselves with nothing to do on a rainy day. Suddenly, the Cat in the Hat appears with his sidekicks ‘Thing One’ and ‘Thing Two’ and promptly begins to share a few of his tricks as a means of entertaining the children.
As you might expect, the kids and the Cat combine to get into some mischief and subsequently make a mess of the house. Now the collection of characters must scramble to get things cleaned up before mother comes home.
Known worldwide as the imaginative master of children’s literature, Dr. Seuss’ books are full of stories that blend rhymes and both real and invented words.
Books such as “The Cat in the Hat” have helped many children and adults learn to read and better understand the English language due to the inventive language that is used.
The production of Dr. Seuss’ “The Cat in the Hat” is being presented by the internationally respected theatre company Childsplay, which believes young people deserve to experience challenging, thought-provoking theatre of the highest artistic quality.
