Classrooms at Castaic Elementary School are facing repairs after a broken water pipe caused structural damage.
Crews from the district assisted a professional water damage cleaning company in the two classrooms that were affected over the school’s winter break, Janene Maxon, interim superintendent, wrote in a Facebook post from the Castaic Union School District Tuesday.
“We called a professional water damage cleaning company who immediately arrived at CES (Castaic Elementary School) Sunday afternoon to begin the clean up,” Maxon wrote.
The interim superintendent said the crew was working into the evening Sunday and early Monday morning to ensure the classrooms would be cleaned up in a timely manner before the school session started up again.
“District and school site staff worked to get temporary classrooms set up for our first grade (students),” Maxon wrote.
Maxon believes the school district’s insurance would be able to cover all damage from the faulty water pipe.
“We are so appreciative of the support from the community,” she said. “The teachers are requesting a bit of time to figure out what was lost and what might be needed.”
Maxon said she will keep the public updated with any information on the classroom recovery process.
