[SCVi] – SCVi Charter School is inviting families with learners in middle school as well as families currently enrolled in high school to an Information Evening with a full line up of programing.
“We have an evening of excellent programming lined up to provide a wealth of valuable information for high school learners and their parents, as well as families with learners about to begin high school in the next year or two,” said Matt Watson, upper school director for SCVi, a tuition-free charter school and the founding campus of iLEAD Schools. “All of these events are not only open to SCVi families, but we are excited to extend this invitation to the entire community.”
The evening will include:
SCVi Upper School Overview – Information about SCVi, its project-based approach to learning, and its success in preparing students for college. An SCVi college counselor will provide information about the excellent colleges that have accepted graduates from SCVi’s first two graduating classes. The evening will also offer information on SCVi high school learners’ options, including the International Baccalaureate program, arts and literature opportunities, sports programs, internships, and the ability to take classes at College of the Canyons. Beginning at 6 p.m. in the Shakespeare Theatre.
“Our college prep goes beyond ‘getting in’ to college, and actually prepares learners to know how to be successful in college,” said Watson . “Our learners also benefit greatly from having award-winning college expert Anne Cochran on our team. When you combine an expert team with the more personalized attention of a smaller-school environment, it really pays dividends for the students.

Including options as internships, on line learning, workshops, peer collaboration, independent study, and the supervised design of individual projects by the learners themselves.
International Travel Opportunities for Enrolled Students – Learners currently enrolled at SCVi and their families will have the chance to learn about this years opportunities for our 9th – 12th grade students to travel internationally as part of a short term exchange program in the spring. This talk will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Shakespeare Theatre at SCVi.
“Looking Forward to College — What Needs to Happen Between Now and Sept.1”: Beginning at 7 p.m. in the Etta James room at SCVi, college planning expert Anne Cochran will provide this special presentation for 11th grade learners and parents to help guide them through the very important junior year of high school, when many key actions need to be taken and deadlines need to be met in preparation for the transition from high school to college.
The presentation begins 7 p.m. in the Etta James Room at SCVi.
“The college planning process starts sooner than people think, and it’s important for parents to be engaged in the process,” says Cochran, a frequent speaker at professional college conferences, including the College Board’s Destination Equity 2014 Conference.
“This session will provide a wealth of valuable information to help families successfully plan their learners’ college journeys.” SCVi, located at 28060 Hasley Canyon Road in Castaic, offers project-based K-12 curriculum and student-led assessment with global and culturally diverse influences.
