PHOENIX, Ariz. – Four days after narrowly falling to No. 2 Westmont 66-59 on Bross Court, The Master’s College women’s basketball team rebounded on Saturday by beating Arizona Christian University 71-63 in Phoenix, Ariz.
“I thought we were able to implement some of the things we worked on this week in practice which made a huge difference,” commented TMC head coach Dan Waldeck. “We didn’t quite defend and take care of the ball the way we wanted to, but to get a win on the road after a tough loss on Tuesday shows this team’s resolve.”
The win improved No. 10 TMC’s 2015-16 campaign record to 20-3 and 10-1 in Golden State Athletic Conference play.
TMC’s Bianca Cubello minted her seventh double-double of the season by leading all scorers with 25 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
Joining Cubello in scoring double figures was Ashley Bartow (11 points) and Nicole Nitake (10).
Collectively, TMC outscored the Firestorm three out of four quarters (25-18, 13-10, 21-19, 12-16) after going 19-27 (70%) on free throws, 23-51 (45%) from the field, and 6-16 from behind the arc (37%).
Elsewhere, the Lady Mustangs amassed 39 rebounds, 19 turnovers, 12 steals, 10 assists, and five blocks.
Now, TMC will travel to La Mirada on Tuesday to take on Biola University at 5:30 p.m. The last time TMC and Biola met was on January 9 where the Lady Mustangs hung on to beat the eagles 57-55 on Bross Court.
