Hundreds turned out to raise money and get colored at the third annual Santa Colorita 5K Fun Run on Saturday, Feb. 13.
The run benefits multiple organizations including Jack’s Angels Foundation, the Wish Education Foundation and the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce.
“Any age can come out here and have fun,” said Terri Crane, president of the SCV Chamber of Commerce. “You don’t have to be in great shape, you don’t have to be a runner. You just have to be breathing air and want to have fun.”
In addition to the color run, Skip for Jack was back to help raise awareness for Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, or DIPG.
Jack’s Angels Foundation is a local 501(c)3 charitable organization inspired by the life of James-William “Jack” Demeter who was diagnosed with DIPG at 3-years-old and died nine months later.
Congressman Steve Knight recently introduced a bipartisan resolution which aims to raise awareness and support research for DIPG.
Knight was there to speak on his resolution and show his support, along with other prominent city leaders.
“Hopefully in the near future we can give hope to families and most of all those young children who are suffering most of from such terrible diseases,” said Dante Acosta, Santa Clarita City Councilman.
Participants also shop with over 40 vendors, get photos with a Tonka truck and recover from the 5K in the Whole Foods Recovery Zone.
