0310-ent-martin-george-blk-adam-sharpThe Snareheads — Billy Davis, Steve Sadd, Joe Fuoco, Mike Fitzgerald and Joe Bertalli – bang the drum Friday night at Valencia Wine on Town Center Drive.

Award-winning Santa Clarita songwriter-singer-bandleader Sean Wiggins and her guitar partner Colin Ryan hold forth at Wine 661 in Valencia on Saturday night starting at 8.

They’ll play sets of tunes from her seven albums and a few new tunes as well. Sean’s guest spot on SCVTV’s “House Blend” hosted by 0310-ent-sean-wiggins-661-coloryours truly was a highlight of Season 3 in 2012. Find out more about her at her website.

Sunday night the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons stages “TAO: Seventeen Samurai,” bringing a bit of Eastern culture to the West Coast.

Taiko drumming, eye-grabbing costumes and tight choreography make the show a very cool visual and sound experience. Watch a video preview here.

Showtime is 7 p.m. and tickets range from $30 to $53. Get ’em online or by calling the PAC box office at 661-362-5304.

Santa Clarita music fans join others around the world in mourning the passing of Sir George Martin, the legendary producer of The Beatles and many more, at the ripe old age of 90 at his home in London.

Just a few hours after the news broke Tuesday night, I spoke with London-based Beatles expert and biographer Mark Lewisohn, author of several acclaimed books about the band.

Lewisohn and Sir George were well-acquainted: They collaborated on the three Beatles “Anthology” double CDs in the ’90s, and several years ago Lewisohn co-produced “Produced by George Martin,” a six-CD boxed set tracing Martin’s 50 colorful years in the studio.

“[The Beatles liked] histao26_1000px personality – he was a very nice man to have around,” Lewisohn said. “He had a point of view, and was always able to listen to others’ points of view. So, he was extremely good company. They thought he was very funny – indeed, he was very funny.

“It just could not have been better,” Lewisohn said. “There were four of them always, The Beatles, and when they closed ranks it would exclude even the likes of George Martin. But undoubtedly when it came to creating music, George Martin was the man that they wanted to do it with. And let’s face it – the body of music that they worked on together is lasting forever. What a legacy that is.

(Lewisohn was also my research consultant on “The Lost Lennon Tapes” radio series for Westwood One in 1988-1990.)

Listen to our complete conversation about Sir George Martin here, and read the transcript here.

The 13th annual Summer Meltdown Autism Awareness Art & Music Festival is coming up on Saturday and Sunday, April 30 and May 1, and Central Park in Saugus. Get the latest lineup info and tickets here.
