The Real Side | Commentary by Joe Messina
| Monday, Mar 14, 2016

joemessinamugPresident Obama has once again shown his utter disdain for conservatives. Before getting into office, he said in a speech that we weren’t a red country, we weren’t a blue country, we were a purple country. However, he seems to have become colorblind to all but his own party’s color.

Leading up to First Lady Nancy Reagan’s funeral, I made a comment on Facebook that President Obama only seemed to want to go to “thugs’” funerals. He has blown off some of the most beloved people in society and some of the most important figures in history. Why? Because they don’t fit his narrative. They don’t give him a Chris Matthews “tingle.”

In response to my comment, the question placed to me was: What other president has attended a First Lady’s funeral?

Is that really the test? What other president has “honored” thugs with representation at their funerals? None.

Let’s break it down a bit.

Obama has attended the funerals of state Sen. Clementa Pinckney, Beau Biden, Nelson Mandela, former Speaker Tom Foley, Sen. Daniel Inouye, Senator and KKK club founder Robert Byrd, civil rights icon Dorothy Height, broadcaster Walter Cronkite, and Senator-murderer Ted Kennedy.

He sent Joe Biden to attend these funerals: Justice Antonin Scalia, Rep. Louis Stokes, state Sen. Clementa Pinckney (with Obama), NYC Police Officer Rafael Ramos, Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, Sen. Daniel Inouye (also with Obama), Peace Corps founder Sargent Shriver, and Senator-KKK club founder Robert Byrd (also with Obama).

President Obama sent a “representative” to these funerals: South Korean President Kim Young-sam; Freddie Grey, who died in police custody; Singapore Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, German President Richard von Weizsacker; Zambian President Michael Chilufya Sata; Michael Brown, killed while committing a crime; Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze; poet and author Maya Angelou; Maj. Gen. Harold Greene; Spanish President Adolfo Suarez Gonzalez; former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher; Ghana President John Evans Atta Mills; and former First Lady Nancy Reagan.

And no love (or representation) for Chris Kyle, Special Forces sniper and American hero.

Does this not speak volumes for this President’s character? Golfing after the Foley beheading. He couldn’t even wait a few hours. Really? Restart of the Iraq War. Out golfing after the announcement. It seems like it’s golf, golf, golf, family, golf, golf, country and golf … in that order and frequency.

But let’s stay on topic: the President’s character.

Our president has simply sent “representatives” to the funerals of presidents and prime ministers of countries that are supposedly our allies. He has seen fit to send “representatives” to criminals’ funerals. Pause here and let that sink in … presidential representation at the funerals of thugs and criminals.

Doesn’t sending “representatives” to Nancy Reagan’s and Justice Scalia’s funerals put them on the same footing as the thugs and criminals?

Why did he miss those two recent and historic funerals? Was he busy attending a weapons summit? A green energy summit? Nope. A golf game and a music-film-new media festival-conference. Sure, he cares.

Pay close attention to the funerals he did attend. Almost all shared the same ideology as him. So much for a “purple” country.

The one that stands out the most is Robert Byrd’s funeral. What a peach of a guy. The king of pork-barrel spending, who created a new chapter for the KKK by recruiting 150 men. He filibustered against the 1964 Civil Rights Act and made this gem of a statement earlier in his career:

“I shall never fight in the armed forces with a negro by my side … Rather I should die a thousand times and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds.” (Robert C. Byrd in a letter to Sen. Theodore Bilbo, D-Miss., 1944.)

Like I said, a peach of a guy. This is whom he holds in high esteem?

Then there’s Ted Kennedy, who left a woman to die after his car plunged into a river in Massachusetts and didn’t bother to call police until the next day after the alcohol was out of his system. Yup. Another one to hold in high esteem.

President Obama sat with illegal aliens and discussed their issues during the sequester fight a few years back while gating the Veterans Memorial, knowing full well that vets had flown in from all across the country to be there. He said there was no money – but there was plenty of money to have Washington D.C. police, Capitol police and Secret Service agents protecting him while he was in the tent.

I used to give him the benefit of the doubt. I’m done with that. Actions speak louder than words. The actions of this man show his disdain and hatred not just for conservatives, but also for the basic foundations of this wonderful country.

It’s too bad the first African American president will be remembered in such a negative way. At least, that is, until the left rewrites history as time goes on.

Get over it, Joe. The President sent his wife.

Do you suppose it possible, with Congress in complete decay and disrepair, that the only adult left in government might be busy? Perhaps he was monitoring the North Korean situation with the Joint Chiefs? Maybe he was meeting with Central Bankers?

Why is it you cannot get over attacking this President over personal choices that are far more “high value” and “moral” than those of your party?

Here, in the presidency, you have two highly educated, well spoken, reserved people. You have a great, strong American family. You have great stories of personal determination overcoming very hard childhood challenges. You have a great story of race becoming equal. You have a man of peace rather than war.

But no go for you, Joe. You just can’t take it. Joe, Obama’s “family values” so “Trump” your candidates. But he’s just not good enough.

    Why?

You don’t write about Trump. You don’t write about Cruz spending about zero of his money behind his “faith.” You don’t write about all the moral failings of all these white dudes.

    Is there a pattern?

    That’s obvious and repugnant, Joe.

  2. Jim Shorts says:

Great cometary Joe, thanks. So true but sad that this president (not mine) has no honor or duty to this country and it’s core values and beliefs. We are more divided then ever and he sits behind the podium with that stupid smug grin on his face because he knows he does not have to make the tough decisions but can sit back and coast along while this great nation plunges further and further into the social abyss of left wing extreme liberalism.

  3. Frank Rock Frank Rock says:

Commentary? Oh please! More like a blathering screed!

  4. Javi says:

@ Gary..Obama was at the SXSW media conference in Austin. He is unbelievably disgusting. I once threw my support behind him….right up until he re-signed The Patriot Act. Wake up. Both sides are the same. Less Liberty and more taxes every 4 years.

  5. When you say “thugs”, you might as well say “niggers”, so proceed trying to disregard everything my President has done for this country.

  6. What a nonsensical piece.

  7. You fail to talk about ways to detain bigotry and racism in our city, yet you write garbage like this that makes us more divided. Talk about a bigger issue, such as a white Santa Clarita man stabbing and burning the body of Joshua Thomas and only getting 4 years because of the crooked system we have. Good job Santa Clarita for showing me why I fear that when I have children, they will be referred to “thugs” due to the color of their skin.

  8. Joe Messina is the kind of guy who will do great things when Donald J. Trump is in power. He’s a Trump conservative. He’s standing up for traditional, white, Christian America. #nobama #tcot #winnersonly #realside

  9. Kevin says:

I’ve never heard of anyone, especially a school board member, who is so proud to be a racist. Did any of you see Joe’s comments about Muslims recently? Probably not, because someone smarter than Joe convinced him to remove them. Everybody knows that President Obama saved this nation from the disaster that was the Bush administration, but all you can worry about is his attendance at the funeral of a supposedly beloved former First Lady? Your argument are always weak Joe and I know that if the President was white, you’d have nothing to write about.
