The No. 8 ranked College of the Canyons softball team hosted visiting Western State Conference (WSC) foe Glendale College for a double-header on Tuesday. Canyons stormed out to a dominating 19-2 victory in the first contest, however the second game of the day had to be postponed in the second inning due to inclement weather.
The Cougars (14-8, 7-1 WSC) took care of business early and never looked back in earning the five-inning victory.
Canyons came up to bat 33 times in the shorten affair, connecting for 21 hits. Every member of COC’s starting lineup came had at least one hit, and scored at least one run.
Leading the way with four hits each were sophomore Ariana Rea and freshman Sarah Wilson. Wilson had three RBIs and scored three runs. Rea added an RBI and scored three runs herself.
Sophomore Kiana Holder led the game with four RBIs and also scored three runs.
Sophomore pitcher Ashley Russo (8-5) pitched the full five innings, allowing a lone hit from Glendale while striking out seven.
The second game of the series has been rescheduled for Thursday, April 21, as part of a road doubleheader hosted by Glendale College.
Canyons will return to action on Thursday, March 31 as they travel to face L.A. Valley (10-14, 6-3).
