Carey Ranch

The Los Angeles County Fire Department, along with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and Incident Command Team 3 wishes to express our deep gratitude to the Golden Valley High School and the Hart District for their partnership with us as we battle the Sand Fire.

By allowing us to use the school property they have played an instrumental role in the Sand Fire firefighting efforts.

Thank you for graciously hosting and accommodating the hundreds of firefighters, incident command staff and numerous people that support the firefighting effort.

Everybody should be thanking the fire fighters. It was like 9/11…the residents leaving while the responders were running into the mess. Heavy clothing, 100+ heat, going up and down hills. Wow! I was very impressed with the how fast all the fire companies from various SoCal towns turned out, and how well the incident command worked. And only 18 homes burned? Did you see the size of this fire? Incredible. Anyway, this makes paying taxes a little more palatable. THANKS!!!!!

  36. Bless you!!! Many thanks to each and everyone of you……?

  80. Craig Olsen Craig Olsen says:

Scott Boyer, are you OK out there??

    • Scott Boyer Scott Boyer says:

      Craig,
I know the fires look dramatic on TV and they are, but the way they build here is very different than in Los Alamos or S. Fe. Valencia is a modern Suburb that is designed to survive assaults from Wildland Fires. The houses that burn are on the fringes and built solo out in the trees. Those are by in large indefensible and those are the ones you see on TV all burned up.

So we are ringed by fires from time to time, but it would be very unique and dire circumstances that fire would ever reach us………we are pretty cocooned in here.

    • Craig Olsen Craig Olsen says:

Scott Boyer I was in the area of the Silver Fire 2013 in the Gila National Forest, I lived in Mimbres. It burned 350,000 acres, I caught the picture of when it started. God Bless and Keep You! Will send picture soon!
