A woman, whose identity is unknown, is dead after her car went over the side of San Francisquito Canyon Road and caused a small brush fire Saturday evening.
Firefighters were dispatched to the single-vehicle crash near Fire Camp 14 at 6:16 p.m. and were on scene 10 minutes later, said Art Marrujo, a dispatch supervisor for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
For unknown reasons, the woman’s car was traveling “at a high rate of speed,” according to a California Highway Patrol report. The woman’s vehicle went over the side of the road about 200 feet.
A fire spread from the vehicle to about a half-acre of surrounding brush, said Marrujo.
There are no known witnesses of the crash, according to CHP.
The woman’s body was badly burned in the crash, said Lt. Ed Winter, of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office. Her identity is unknown at this time.
