A high-speed chase that began on the southbound 14 freeway Tuesday night ended in the a crash and the suspect’s arrest.

Miguel Angel Jiminez Jr., 21, of Sylmar, was seen driving a maroon Chevy Corvette at speeds more than 100 mph on the southbound 14 freeway, south of Soledad Canyon Road, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Josh Greengard.

Newhall CHP officers attempted to overtake the Corvette but Jiminez exited the freeway “in an attempt to evade the officers,” Greengard said. Officers searched the area and found Jiminez on Sierra Highway near Via Princessa.

The pursuit began as Jiminez “fled the scene reaching speeds over 90 mph while recklessly running red lights on Sierra Highway,” Greengard said.

Witnesses reported that Jiminez threw a handgun out of the vehicle, Greengard said. Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies found the handgun.

CHP and a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department helicopter followed Jiminez as he re-entered the southbound 14 freeway, continuing onto the southbound I-5 freeway and onto the eastbound I-210, Greengard said. He again reached speeds of more than 100 mph.

Jiminez then took the Polk Street exit and drove through several streets in the San Fernando Valley before Jiminez abandoned the Corvette “while it was still moving and fled on foot,” Greengard said.

The Corvette crashed into two parked cars and Jiminez was taken into custody on Sayer Street at Sayer Lane in Sylmar.

Jiminez was booked on charges of felony evading arrest and is currently being held at Twin Towers Correctional Facility.
