To encourage partnerships with parents, the Newhall School District is hosting its 2016 Parent Summit, Oct. 25 at 6 p.m. at Wiley Canyon Elementary School.
The Summit provides parents a concise way to learn about programs the district is implementing to support students’ success.
Following a general session, there will be breakout sessions covering:
New mathematics instructional materials
Science instruction under the Next Generation Science Standards
How students become successful writers in the NSD Coherent Writing Program
Art and music instruction that maximizes student motivation
Current efforts to support physical education
“We want parents to be partners with us in their children’s education,” district Superintendent Paul Cordeiro said. “This summit provides a great opportunity for us to build stronger partnerships and ensure that parents are fully engaged in their child’s education. The more parents know, the better they can support learning.”
The 2016 Parent Summit is free, and includes a box dinner. Childcare and translation services will be provided as well. To register for the summit, contact Wendy Stimson at (661) 291-4163 or wstimson@newhall.k12.ca.us, and provide parents’ first and last names, children’s school and the number of any children that will be in attendance.
The registration deadline is Oct. 22. Wiley Canyon Elementary School is located at 24240 La Glorita Circle in Santa Clarita.
