The Newhall Community Center recently opened its doors for pickleball play on two newly lined courts in the multipurpose room. Pickleball courts are also available at the Sports Complex Gymnasium and Bouquet Canyon Park.
Pickleball was designed to be easy to learn and play, whether you’re 5, 85 five or somewhere in between.
The game is traditionally played on a badminton-sized court with special paddles made of wood or high-tech aerospace materials. The ball used is similar to a wiffle ball but slightly smaller.
The lower net and wiffle ball allow the game to be accessible to people of all ages and abilities, while still allowing more competitive players to test their agility and speed.
The Newhall Community Center is open for play on Mondays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Pickleball is also available at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex Gymnasium on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon and at Bouquet Canyon Park’s outdoor courts any time of day.
The cost is $3 per player or $2 for players over 55 years of age at both the Newhall Community Center and the Sports Complex Gym, and it is free at Bouquet Canyon Park.
