The Master’s University volleyball team’s six-game winning streak came to an end Tuesday night after falling to No. 2 Westmont College in three sets (20-25, 14-25, 13-25) in Santa Barbara.
Tuesday’s loss moved TMU’s 2016 record to 14-6 and 6-2 in Golden State Athletic Conference play.
Kayla Sims, the GSAC’s Setter of the Week, posted 19 assists, Emily Clark led the Lady Mustangs’ defensive efforts with 12 digs, while Morgan Koch paced TMU with 9 kills.
Collectively, TMU claimed 48 digs, 28 kills, 28 assists, a .090 attack percentage, and two total team blocks.
“Westmont played like the number two team in the nation tonight,” commented TMU head coach Allan Vince. “They had a scrappy defense, they blocked very well against our outside and right side hitters, and covered the court very well. Tonight was a great learning match for us, and I know that it will strengthen us for our upcoming matches.”
Things don’t get any easier for the Lady Mustangs as TMU travels to Missouri this weekend for a tournament where they will face No. 14 Missouri Baptist on Friday at 5:00 p.m., No. 9 Grandview on Saturday at 10:00 p.m., followed by a 12:00 p.m. match against No. 5 Lindsey Wilson.
