ST. LOUIS, Mo. – On Friday, The Master’s University volleyball team began its time at the rigorous Spartan Invitational against No. 14 nationally ranked Missouri Baptist University.
After four close sets (17-25, 25-18, 17-25, 22-25), TMU fell to the Spartans 3-1 and moved its 2016 overall record to 14-7.
Kayla Sims (Anchorage, AK), tallied 33 assists, Emily Clark (Lake Forest, CA) posted 24 digs, while Aubrey Pyburn (Sun Valley, CA) claimed 11 kills. As a team, TMU finished Friday’s match with 54 digs, 43 kills, 38 assists, five total team blocks, and a .182 attack percentage.
“Consistency is our goal this trip,” remarked head coach Allan Vince. “We showed glimpses of dominance against Missouri Baptist at the net, on the service line, and passing, but could not convert it into scoring opportunities. The key for tomorrow’s opponents will be to take advantage of free and controlled balls, and execute a great game plan with confidence.”
Tomorrow, TMU is slated to play No. 9 Grand View (Iowa) at 8:00 a.m. (PDT), followed by a match against No. 5 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) at 10:00 a.m.
