The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and Owen family will hold a memorial service to celebrate the life, memory, and service of Sergeant Steve Owen. We tragically lost Steve on Wednesday, October 5, 2016, while he was performing his duties in the city of Lancaster, California, protecting the residents of Los Angeles County.

Residents in the area should expect road closures and potential delays, primarily between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. Less significant delays should be anticipated in the afternoon at the conclusion of the service.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department marked patrol vehicles and countless outside policing agencies will begin staging for the procession at 6:30 a.m. Thursday morning, October 13, 2016. The staging area will begin in the area of Southbound Sierra Highway at West Avenue I (i) in Lancaster, near the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station – 501 W Lancaster Blvd, Lancaster, CA 93534.

Please allow ample travel time, due to an expected large volume of traffic and attendees. Expect delays. Carpooling is highly encouraged.

The procession will use the following routes beginning at approximately 8 a.m., and intermittent or full closures should be expected on all the listed Lancaster area streets, during the indicated times:

Southbound Sierra Highway to East Avenue M (Columbia Way)
Eastbound East Avenue M (Columbia Way) to 50th Street East
Northbound 50th Street East to East Lancaster Boulevard
Westbound on East Lancaster Boulevard to 40th Street East
South on 40th Street East into the Lancaster Baptist Church

The service is closed to the general public, however, public Internet Live Streaming of the event will be provided by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Video Productions Unit (VPU) to all those outside of the LASD internal data network.
