The William S. Hart Union High School District Governing Board unanimously approved a contract Wednesday night to begin the construction of Castaic High School.

The $126.2 million contract has been awarded to Castaic High School Construction (CHSC).  Groundbreaking is scheduled for January 2017 with the first class of 9th graders anticipated for the Fall of 2019. (CHSC is a Larry Rasmussen company -Ed.)

“We are thrilled to be moving on to this next phase of construction and are that much closer to teaching students at Castaic High School,” said Vicki Engbrecht, Superintendent of the Hart School District. “I want to personally thank those who worked so hard, from our Trustees and District staff, to Lundgren Management and Castaic High School Construction. We’re ready to build a unique and wonderful school for the people of Castaic. In addition to the rich academic curriculum offered at all Hart District schools, Castaic High School will host an innovative Career Technical Education program.”

“Being born and raised here in Santa Clarita, this is nothing short of a dream come true,” said Randy Wrage, development manager for CHSC. “We’re looking forward to creating a state-of-the-art facility, one that will not only serve students, but the community of Castaic as well. I’m very happy about this.”

The new campus will sit on 58 acres in Romero Canyon, part of a 198-acre site graded by Romero Canyon LLC.

“This has been a long time coming, but it has been time well spent,” said Rob Hall, President of the Governing Board. “Finally we can see the light at the end of the tunnel.  I look forward to adding another great school to the district.”

“I am especially proud of the fact that we are able to add Career Technical Education buildings that will allow our students to be trained and ready to get the jobs requiring these skills,” said Governing Board Member Joe Messina.

Yes, who is chic? Have they ever built a high school? I’ve lived here for forty years and never heard of them.

  2. dang i was hoping they would just make it into a motocross track :)

  3. Familia Ruiz Familia Ruiz says:

I hear a Benny Hill Show intro music in the background…

  4. It’s so far back off the road . And it’s dirt all the way there :

  5. so cal guy says:

…That road will become a much larger road that will hopefully accommodate the amount of traffic that school will generate and I am pretty sure CHSC (aka Larry Rasmussen)has enough experience that nobody has too much to worry about. He’s only been doing this pretty much his entire life. This school is long over do. Glad to see it finally see it happening.

  6. Fred says:

Not very good reporting when the obvious question of who is this construction company isn’t addressed. How does the public know this isn’t a self-dealing scam by the Board members?

  7. Arthur Lopez says:

I drove on Romero Canyon and could not see where this is, what’s the cross street or how do I find it? Thanks.

    • SCVNews.com says:

It’s almost at the very (north) end of Romero (the dirt road). You shouldn’t be able to get to it – the gate should be locked – but you can see it on Google Earth.

  8. Noooo… build a Walt Disney World..

  9. so cal guy says:

People who keep commenting on the who CHSC is? READ the story…it clearly states who CHSC is. but just incase you missed it again, I will help out. So here is a copy of the paragraph taken from the above story (The $126.2 million contract has been awarded to Castaic High School Construction (CHSC).
