The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch and Flood advisory for the Santa Clarita Valley and recent burn areas across Los Angeles County. While the Flood Advisory is expected to be lifted around 2:15 p.m., the Flash Flood Watch will be in effect until about 9 p.m. Thursday night.
NWS says that periods of heavy rainfall could trigger mud and debris flows in recent burn areas and those in and around recent burn areas (such as the Sand Fire burn area) are urged to take the steps necessary to protect their property.
A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated, or ponding of water in urban or other areas is happening or can possibly happen.
Minor flooding is expected during the early parts of the afternoon. Portions of L.A. County are expected to have minor flooding, in places such as low-lying roads or parking lots, urban drainages, and small streams.
When driving, be sure to avoid flooded areas as much as possible. NWS suggests to turn your vehicle around if encountering a flooded road.
