The California New Motor Vehicle Board is pleased to announce that Ramon Alvarez C. has been elected as its new Board President and Kathryn Ellen Doi as Vice-President.

Together, they will be helping to lead a program that resolves disputes between consumers and new motor vehicle dealers, manufacturers or distributors. In addition, the NMVB operates in a quasi-judicial capacity to resolve disagreements between various industry entities.

Ramon Alvarez C. is a Dealer Member who was originally appointed to the Board in March 2007 by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and reappointed by Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. in April 2014. Alvarez recently served two-terms as the organization’s Vice-President and one term as President.

Alvarez is a former member of the Administration Committee, Board Development Committee, Government and Industry Affairs Committee, and served as chair of the Fiscal Committee.

Recognized as a leading Latino entrepreneur in the United States, Alvarez owns Mercury and Jaguar dealerships in Riverside, California. In 2010, he founded an electric car distribution center called the Alvarez Electric Motor Company. The following year, he launched the Spanish language radio show “El Show de Don Ramon,” designed to share valuable information with the Latino community in Houston, Texas on how to buy new and used cars and trucks.

Alvarez is a past member of the California Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and has served on the boards of the Greater Riverside Chamber of Commerce, Riverside Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Inland Empire Economic Partnership, Riverside Community Hospital, YMCA, March of Dimes, and Professional Golfers Association (PGA) Advisory Committee.

Kathryn Ellen Doi is a Public Member who also serves on the Board’s Policy and Procedure Committee. She was appointed by Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. in September 2013.

Doi is a partner in the Sacramento business law firm of Hanson Bridgett LLP, where she represents healthcare providers in reimbursement matters. She is also an AV Peer Review Rated attorney, the highest rating given by Martindale-Hubbell for legal ability and ethical standards. She was named Northern California Super Lawyer in 2004 and 2011 to 2015.

Previously, Doi was Senior Deputy Legal Affairs Secretary in the Governor’s Office serving under Governor Gray Davis. Under the Davis Administration, she also served as Counsel to the Secretary of the Technology, Trade and Commerce Agency, ensuring agency compliance with state and federal laws and overseeing agency rulemaking. Doi served as Staff Counsel to the Commission on Judicial Performance where she investigated and evaluated alleged ethics violations by California state court judges.

Doi received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Stanford University and her Juris Doctor from the University of California, Davis.

The New Motor Vehicle Board (Board) is a program within the Department of Motor Vehicles with oversight provided by California State Transportation Agency.
