The University of Antelope Valley Men’s baseball were in Redding, California yesterday playing Simpson University in CalPac action. The Pioneers came into this past weekend’s series of games against Simpson University in first place in the CalPac standings. The season is winding down for the Pioneers and they are not only playing each game with the main objective to win, but to also improve on everything needed to repeat as CalPac Conference champions and to also compete for a College World Series Championship.
Victories in Saturday’s double header action (Game 1: UAV 6 SU 0 and Game 2: UAV 9 SU 4) put UAV in the driver’s seat to complete the sweep of the Redhawks and to remain atop the CalPac Conference standings. The Pioneers started off Sunday’s game taking an early 1-0 lead over the Redhawks. Mikey Pereznegron and Adam Maciel each had a single for the Pioneers in the top of the first inning with Maciel scoring the first run of the game for the Pioneers.
UAV scored two runs off of two hits in the top of the fifth inning to take a 3-2 lead. Bryce Gieseke (1 single) and Travis Holm (1 single) scored both runs for the Pioneers in the top of the fifth inning.
The Pioneers had thirteen hits on the day with Easton Withers, Breyer Gayle, Darron Teson and Adam Maciel each having two hits a piece. Dallas Litscher pitched eight innings and only gave up four runs in the Pioneers 6-4 victory over the Redhawks. The Pioneers return to action May 5 th on the road at Providence Christian College.
