The city of Santa Clarita’s Thursdays at Newhall series will head into May with an exciting lineup of salsa dance, free live performances, a Corvette car show, an Alice in Wonderland inspired block party and more.

From 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on May 4, urban Latin dance theatre company Contra-Tiempo will lead an exploration of the Rueda de Casino, a fun and social circle dance, while Orquesta Charangoa performs authentic Cuban music in the Charanga style! JAM Sessions is hosted by the Ford Theatre Foundation, bringing dance and original live performances to the Old Town Newhall Library, located at 24500 Main Street.

Also on May 4, at The MAIN, located at 24266 Main Street, 10 performers will take the stage for 10 minutes each and share their comedy, storytelling, short films and music at 10 by 10 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Performers include Gabe Abelson, Richard Myers, Mai Do, Trish Lester, Melanie Carroll-Dolci, Rich and Doug, Alex Stein, The New Mexican and the short films, “Life of Death” and “A Matter of Time.”

From 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on May 11, listen for the LS1 small block engines roaring down Main Street as Corvettes, both new and classic, show off at the Revved Up car show. Residents can enjoy food trucks and purchase adult beverages provided by Persia Lounge while checking out the cars on display. Local residents interested in submitting an automobile for Revved Up can apply at OldTownNewhall.com/RevvedUp.

Also on May 11, local songwriters will perform their original works at Note by Note inside The MAIN, located at 24266 Main Street, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The evening’s performers include Dick Wells, Willow Stephens, Doug and Rich, and T. Dan Hofstedt. Performers interested in Note by Note can learn more at OldTownNewhall.com/NotebyNote.

“Step through the Looking Glass” on May 18 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and into the Alice in Wonderland themed SENSES block party. Don’t be late for this very important date featuring music from The Replicas, a stark raving mad tea party, a Mad Hatter hat making booth and an improvisational task party. Complete the night with drinks from the on-street bar and grub from one of the food trucks or local restaurants.

Thursdaysat Newhall’s May events conclude with the ARTree Speaker Series on May 25 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at The MAIN. Carroll Brown is a published fiction writer and poet, an award-winning screenwriter, a filmmaker and now a director, all while working a full-time job in a field outside of the creative arts. Join Carroll for a candid discussion about the struggle to create, and maybe even succeed, in the rigors of today’s artistic economic environment.
