The California League announced Monday that Lancaster JetHawks outfielder Sam Hilliard has been named the California League Player of the Week for the week of May 1-7.
During the week, Hilliard hit .417 (10-for-24) with a 1.231 OPS, two home runs and 10 RBI. He added a triple, four runs scored and two stolen bases.
The Arlington, Texas native’s week was highlighted by a 4-for-5 performance with a home run and five RBI last Thursday at Visalia. He went 8-for-14 with two home runs and nine RBI during the four-game series against the Rawhide.
The Colorado Rockies’ 15th round selection in the 2015 draft out of Wichita State, Hilliard leads the league in batting average (.369), on-base percentage (.441) and OPS (1.013) through his first 29 games of the season. He ranks third in the league with 25 RBI, 22 runs scored and 10 stolen bases.
Hilliard, 23, is the first JetHawk to win a California League weekly award this season.
