Brian Mundell hit a two-run home run to cap a four-run third inning that propelled the Lancaster JetHawks to a 9-5 win over the Modesto Nuts on Tuesday night at John Thurman Field.
The win was the seventh in a row for the JetHawks (21-18) who improved to a season-high three games over .500.
Garrett Hampson led off the game with a triple and scored on a wild pitch, but Modesto (22-17) answered with two runs against Jesus Tinoco in the bottom of the first.
Lancaster came back with four runs in the third inning to take a lead they would not relinquish. Chris Rabago and Wes Rogers reached base to start the inning before Hampson bunted for a base-hit to load the bases. Rabago and Rogers each scored on Joe DeCarlo passed balls. Mundell followed with a home run, his seventh of the season, off Nathan Bannister (2-3) to give his club a 5-2 lead.
Tinoco struggled in his first start since being named the California League Pitcher of the Week. He wasn’t able to finish five innings and allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits over 4.1 innings. He walked two, struck out and uncorked two wild pitches.
Carlos Polanco (2-2) came on from the bullpen and threw 2.1 scoreless innings to earn the win.
The JetHawks gave themselves breathing room with a three-run sixth inning in which they totaled four extra-base hits. Yonathan Daza began the inning with a triple, and Roberto Ramos followed with a RBI-double. Rabago and Rogers hit back-to-back RBI-doubles later in the frame.
Logan Cozart and Salvador Justo to throw 4.2 scoreless innings on the night.

The series continues on Wednesday night at John Thurman Field. Craig Schlitter (5-0) is scheduled to start against Pablo Lopez (2-3). First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
