May 24, 2017: The Intermissions – Art Exhibit Reception at Westfield Valencia Town Center

Please join the City of Santa Clarita’s City Council, Arts Commission, and Arts and Events Office on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., at the Town Center Art Space, for a reception celebrating the newest exhibit The Intermissions. Come and enjoy light appetizers and entertainment, meet the artist, and talk to others that are excited about art. The Westfield Valencia Town Center is located at 24201 Valencia Blvd, Santa Clarita, CA 91355.

The exhibit will be on display until September 15, 2017.

May 24, 2017: Electronica Musique & Multimedia Concert at College of the Canyons

The College of the Canyons music department presents its spring “Electronica Musique & Multi-Media” show. The free concert will feature the innovative sounds created by 18 COC students enrolled in various music courses, such as Music 142 (Electronic Music Production) and Music 146 (Electronic Music for the Stage).

“Come and marvel at the sounds and sights of interactive works combining synthetic with real voices,” said Dr. Bernardo Feldman, chair of the college’s music department. “Attendees will be able to immerse themselves within the musical textures bursting with boundless sonic energy and be transported by an array of hypnotic and enigmatic videos.”

The original music will be performed in conjunction with the movements of COC dance students under the direction of Phylise Smith.

“The show will challenge your senses with the sophisticated and cutting-edge music that is both intellectually challenging and exquisitely beautiful,” said Feldman.

At the same time, he works a full-time job in a field outside of the creative arts, as well as being a husband and father. How do you balance the effort to be a creative artist with the requirements of making a living? What are the tips and tricks to balancing the left brain and the right brain, and how do you keep the creative spark alight at the end of a long day?

Join us at this month’s ARTree Speaker Series for a candid discussion with Carroll Brown, highlighted with samples and clips of his work, about the struggle to create, and maybe even succeed, in the rigors of today’s artistic economic environment.

Tommy McGuan is a stand up comedian born and raised in Santa Clarita CA. Since his first performance in the summer of 2014, Tommy was immediately hooked to the art form and began performing where ever and whenever he was able to. Bringing to the stage his energetic personality, wide variety of characters, and captivating life stories; Tommy is sure not to leave out any hilarious details.

He has performed his act in cities such as New York City NY, Paris France, Chicago IL, Reno NV, throughout LA, among others. He has also shared the stage with a number of amazing comedians such as, Howie Mandel (Americas Got Talent), Steve Hytner (Seinfeld), Theo Von (Netflix), as well as many other notable acts.

Stand up comedy is an art form that can at times be seen as offensive. Viewer discretion is advised and no one under 18 will be permitted in the theater, unless with adult supervision.
