Brian Mundell drove in the final three runs to propel the JetHawks to a come-from-behind 5-4 victory over the San Jose Giants on Tuesday night at The Hangar.
With the JetHawks down 4-2 in the bottom of the sixth, Mundell launched a two-run home run to tie the game. In the seventh with two out, he followed a Sam Hilliard single with an RBI double. The three runs batted in pushed his league-leading total up to 39. Mundell is second in the league with nine home runs.
Lancaster took the lead right away in the opening inning. Garrett Hampson led off with a double and Brendan Rodgers deposited a two-run homer off the scoreboard in left, his fourth of the season.
Jonah Arenado tied the game for San Jose with a two-run single in the fourth. The Giants took the lead in the fifth on Ryan Howard’s RBI single. They added another in the sixth on a solo home run by Gio Brusa.
Logan Cozart (1-0) picked up the win in relief for the JetHawks with two scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Alexander Guillen allowed a couple hits in the ninth, but held the Giants off the board to record his fourth save. Caleb Simpson (0-1) suffered the loss in relief.
Trey Killian started on the mound for the JetHawks and struck out seven in six innings of work. The right-hander allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits. Eight of the nine JetHawks starting position players picked up a hit.
The three-game series continues on Wednesday night at The Hangar. Colin Welmon (3-1) will start for Lancaster against Matt Solter (1-0). First pitch is 6:35 p.m.
