LANCASTER, Calif. – The Lancaster JetHawks scored three runs in the bottom of the 11th inning to come from behind and knock off the Inland Empire 66ers, 7-6, on Sunday afternoon at The Hangar.
Down 6-4 entering the home half of the 11th, Garrett Hampson and Brendan Rodgers came up with back-to-back singles. Yonathan Daza followed with a two-run triple to tie the game.
After an intentional walk to Brian Mundell, Wes Rogers delivered a walk-off sacrifice-fly to left field to win it for the JetHawks.
Each team scored once in the 10th inning. Troy Montgomery led off with a home run for Inland Empire in the top half. Chris Rabago came through with a two-out RBI single in the bottom half. The hit scored Wes Rogers from second base, who was running for Roberto Ramos. Ramos had doubled with one out to begin the rally.
The JetHawks entered the bottom of the eighth inning down 3-1, but Brian Mundell hit a two-run single to tie the game. He finished with three runs batted in on the day, pushing his league-leading total up to 44.
Lancaster starter Trey Killian retired the first 14 batters he faced before committing an error on a bunt attempt by Troy Montgomery. Jose Rojas followed with an RBI double to open the scoring. The 66ers added another run in the sixth inning on a sacrifice-fly by Matt Thaiss.
Mundell’s RBI single put the JetHawks on the board in the bottom of the sixth. Rojas got the run back for Inland Empire with an RBI single of his own in the seventh.
Garrett Hampson reached all six times out of the leadoff spot for the JetHawks. He finished 4-for-4 with four singles and two walks. Killian tossed eight innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits. He struck out three and did not walk a batter.
Brendan Rodgers went 3-for-4 and reached five times to increase his batting average to .389.
Max Schuh (1-3) picked up the win in relief for the JetHawks despite allowing a pair of runs in the 11th. Justin Kelly (0-1) suffered the loss for Inland Empire.
The four-game series concludes on Monday afternoon at The Hangar, as the JetHawks go for the sweep. Right-hander Colin Welmon (3-1) will start for Lancaster against right-hander Jaime Barria (4-3). First pitch is 2:05 p.m.
