Jun 15, 2017: Collected Drawings – Art Exhibit Reception at The MAIN

Jun 15, 2017 07:00 pm

Residents are invited to attend a free public art reception with light appetizers for the art exhibit “Collected Drawing” by Mike Farrell.

Artist Statement:

As a largely self-taught artist who has been scratching away on paper his whole life, I’ve always tried to bring intelligence, a sense of craft, and a bit of humor to my work. I’ve always thought that the best teacher you can have is sitting at your table, concentrating on the drawing at hand. Hopefully, my drawings show the hours that go into their creation.

I work almost entirely from my own imagination. I do spend quite a bit of time online researching relevant details and color schemes, but the original idea is just something that pops into being whenever it’s ready. I also use digital tools such as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop to help me finalize my layouts. I always do multiple sketches, each progressively more detailed until I have a final full size version which is then transferred to the final drawing paper. Along with multiple color studies, prep work can take half as much time for any one drawing. –Mike Farrell

Jun 15, 2017: SENSES Block Party – License to Thrill at Main Street in Old Town Newhall

Jun 15, 2017 07:00 pm

It’s your License to Thrill at the next SENSES block party inspired by the most popular spy around: James Bond. For a few hours, you’ll live the life of intrigue as you practice your escape skills in between games of roulette and blackjack. You can also grab a martini—shaken, not stirred—from the on-street bar hosted by Newhall Refinery on your way over to the dance floor. That’s where you can show how smooth you really are as you dance to the sounds of Platinum Groove.

Throughout the night, you may find yourself truly becoming a character in a spy story that will be created onsite using partygoers as inspiration. The stories will be projected on the wall as they’re created. And since every star of a story needs a photo shoot, don’t forget to stop in the Galpin Lounge where you just may have the chance to pose with your favorite Bond characters.

The wildly popular SENSES Block Party, presented by Galpin Subaru, brings live music, food trucks, themed activities, and adult beverages to Main Street every Third Thursday from March to October. Don’t miss this fun and festive adult setting right here in Santa Clarita.
