Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station cruiserA Castaic resident foiled an attempted invasion of her home Monday morning when she shot an intruder, according to officials from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Deputies responded to a residence on the 36000 Block of Ridge Route Road, Castaic, at approximately 2:08 a.m. regarding a burglary in progress call.

It appears during the burglary, the suspect went to the rear of the location and forced entry into the residence through a rear door. When the suspect entered the residence, the victim armed herself with a handgun.

After a short confrontation with the suspect, the victim fired a shot, from her firearm, at the suspect, hitting him in the chest.

Deputy personnel arrived on the scene and rendered aid until paramedics arrived.

The suspect, a male Hispanic adult, was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in fair condition and is in custody for a burglary charge.

  5. Karen Diggs Karen Diggs says:

Good going but since it’s California they will probably put her on death row.

  6. The only reliable way to protect your yourself/family is to do it yourself.

  7. Was this another criminal let out early?

  8. Greg McMahan Greg McMahan says:

    Good for her . ????????

  9. Kurt Buck Kurt Buck says:

Good job! She just should have remembered double tap to the chest and double tap to the head. Could’ve saved us a bunch of money on hospital bills and incarceration!

  10. I love a happy ending.

  11. Irma Ibarra Irma Ibarra says:

Good for her ??‼️Robbers are playing Russian roulette breaking into homes ??.

  15. I am a 2nd amendment supported. I hope she did everything by the book or she will be facing charges (sad that the bad guys have rights) I pray that some day I dont have to make this same decision since you usually only have a split second to make that choice. Pray for her because she will be under scrutiny for everything by the Luny liberals.

  16. Josh Henry Josh Henry says:

    Sweet good shoot

  17. D.j. Smetana D.j. Smetana says:

Excellent. Always ready on this end.

  18. James Farley James Farley says:

She could be in for a tough time. If she left the house as the article states, armed herself, then re entered the home she made herself the aggressor. You do not have an absolute right to shoot someone in your house. You need to be in a reasonable fear for your life or injury. Returning to the home does not fit a reasonable fear scenario.

  19. Craig Buelna Craig Buelna says:

Nice job single woman alone at home defending herself against a criminal home invasion intruder!!
    #secondamendmentrights
    ????????

  20. Good for her. Hopefully other potential home invaders in the area will have second thoughts. The sad part is the anti-gun crowd would rather read a headline about a Castaic women was robbed/raped/murdered in her home so they could ‘feel bad’ for her family and send them love and prayers

  21. Jim Oge Jr Jim Oge Jr says:

Great job, my entire family is trained to do this and will do it. This is an awesome job and great news to see stains get removed from society.

  22. Harvey says:

It’s getting Wild Westy out here alright.

Go ahead and thank the Legislators who are decriminalizing crime.

Hmmm let’s see, what do you get when you combine lawlessness with strict gun control??

    Oh yea, a POLICE STATE.

    Gotcha.

It’s a good thing the 2nd Amendment is there and Trump and Pence are there backing it up. Them and the 100 million American gun owners!

    *mic drop….*

  23. El Rey El Rey says:

“Luny” Liberal here. Great job lady. You used your gun to do exactly what, you should use it for. Protection. Scrutiny? Naw. Just applause.

  24. Ronnie Tan says:

    Good shot lady!

  25. Eric Engle Eric Engle says:

Perfect…. Another perfect example of a privately owned hand gun saving this innocent lady’s life!! A weapon (hand or long) in the hands of a train “responsible” person is the most effective means of protecting one’s self and loved ones… I sure with the anti-guy crowd didn’t close their eyes to this fact….and turn their backs on stories like these when they come up….

  26. Eric Engle Eric Engle says:

Last thought… I wonder what will happen, if anything, to the lady for shooting is well deserving criminal???? I do hope the NRA legal team will help her out… https://www.nracarryguard.com/?gclid=CN7Y0bml3NQCFURlfgodDfoJOA

  30. David Breaux David Breaux says:

Glad she was able to defend herself… in other news WOOHOOO someone got to use their gun let’s throw a party…. uugggg

  31. 67siia says:

Well done. Sadly, The Supreme Court of the United States won’t hear a California gun case, leaving in place the state’s strict limits on concealed carry for law abiding citizens

  32. Anne Jones Anne Jones says:

Good job home owner. Too bad you didn’t have hollow point bullets.

  33. Scott Ervin Scott Ervin says:

I’m getting my pitchfork. Meet me at HM!

  34. John Gilbert John Gilbert says:

People might think it’s Castaic but 36000 block of Ridge Route Road is way up there.in the boonies.

  35. Linda Brown Linda Brown says:

Yep there are a lot of folks with guns so criminals beware.

  36. Elliot says:

Glad she all right and no real harm or worse but since it’s California they will probably put her on death row.

  37. Terri Wilson this is what happened when we were at mcdonalds!

  38. George Palmer says:

I wonder what those who fear vetted citizen gun ownership and legal carry permits and believe it is wrong to keep a gun nearby at night would do in this case. Just wait for a (5-15 minute?) police response and be forced to submit to an unknown intruder? An unknown intruder that is usually not vetted AND carrying without a legal permit?
