Tip of the Week: All Fireworks are Illegal in Santa Clarita
As you all may remember, the city of Santa Clarita just had a major brush fire in the area of Placerita Canyon Road and Sierra Highway in which over 800 acres were burned and hundreds of homes had to be evacuated. This is greatly due to the fact that we had a very long and wet winter, and all the vegetation that grew as a result of that, is now very dry.

All fireworks, including those marked ‘Safe and Sane’ are ILLEGAL in Santa Clarita. This year patrol deputies, as well as special teams, will be looking for the use of illegal fireworks, confiscating those fireworks, and citing (or possibly even arresting) those who are using them.

Section 9.60.030 SCMC states the following: “Except as otherwise provided, it is unlawful for any person to handle, give away, sell, offer for sale, solicit the sale of, manufacture, possess, purchase, use, ignite, explode, fire, or otherwise discharge any fireworks within the city of Santa Clarita or to aid or abet any of the above with respect to fireworks as defined.”

The penalties for using illegal fireworks within the Santa Clarita Valley can result in both a $1,000 fine and a misdemeanor prosecution.

For those who were not aware of this regulation and currently are in possession of illegal fireworks, you can take them to any local Los Angeles County Fire Station and surrender them with no fines or penalties.

If you have illegal fireworks, DO NOT USE THEM! The possibility of starting a fire in our area is extremely high. You don’t want to be the person responsible for starting the next big Santa Clarita fire.

The city of Santa Clarita still wants you to have a good time and enjoy the holiday though. As such, there will be three professional firework shows (Valencia Westfield Mall, Stevenson Ranch and Magic Mountain) which can be seen from almost anywhere in the city. Bring your coolers and chairs and enjoy a great, and safe, show.

Take care, and be safe.
