RANCHO CUCAMONGA – Craig Schlitter received plenty of support from his offense and recorded his 10th win of the season as Lancaster JetHawks beat the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, 11-2, on Friday night at LoanMart Field.
Schlitter (10-1) became the first Cal League pitcher to 10 wins this season. He allowed two runs on six hits over six innings with four strikeouts and one walk. The right-hander recorded his 12th quality start in 15 starts on the year. He leads all active Cal League pitchers with a 2.50 ERA.
Lancaster’s offense was quick to offer support for the club’s ace. Hamlet Marte followed a Roberto Ramos RBI-single with a two-run home run in the first inning to put the JetHawks (3-6, 41-38) ahead, 3-0.
The JetHawks chased Quakes all-star starter Dennis Santana (5-5) with a four-run second inning. Four different players recorded RBIs in the frame including run-scoring hits from Sam Hilliard and Marte. Santan allowed seven runs on eight hits in 1.2 innings.
Garrett Hampson reached base in five of six plate appearances out of the leadoff spot. He went 2-for-3 with three walks and scored twice to up his league-leading runs total to 69.
Avery Romero recorded his first three-hit game as a JetHawk, finishing 3-for-4 out of the ninth spot in the lineup. It was his second multi-hit game in his last three contests. Yonathan Daza, Hilliard, Mylz Jones and Chris Rabago each added two hits.
The win snapped a five-game skid against the Quakes (6-3, 42-37) and moved the JetHawks back within one game of Rancho Cucamogna in the South Division.
Carlos Polanco pitched two scoreless innings out of the bullpen and J.D. Hammer tossed a perfect ninth inning to finish the game.
Here’s the box score.
The second game of the four-game was set for Saturday night at LoanMart Field
