The Western Native Trout Initiative, which works to save the iconic native trout of the American West, has created a series of four-part courses full of tips and tricks for chasing Western native trout.

WNTI recently expanded the series to include eight additional species including the California Golden Trout. While some of the trout species cross numerous states, each email-based course focuses on just one state in order to provide specific and helpful information on where and how to fish, and to highlight the state’s offerings for fishing for that particular species.

As part of each course, participants will receive one email per week chock full of information for planning your next great adventure. You can pick one series or all of them and get tips and tricks about native trout from New Mexico to Alaska and everything in between. Each adventure is as varied as the trout themselves:

• Apache trout in Arizona
• Gila trout in New Mexico
• Colorado River cutthroat trout in Wyoming
• Dolly Varden in Alaska
• California Golden trout in California
• Coastal cutthroat trout in Oregon
• Yellowstone cutthroat trout in Idaho
• Redband trout in Idaho
• Westslope cutthroat trout in Washington
• Bonneville cutthroat trout in Utah
• Lahontan cutthroat trout in Nevada
• Rio Grande cutthroat trout in Colorado

Native trout live in some of the last wild places in North America. Getting there can be an adventure in and of itself. Get outdoors this summer, take your fishing gear and experience these iconic fish and landscapes.
