The non-profit Samuel Dixon Family Health Centers have installed officers and board members for the 2017-2018 year.
Rosalind Wayman, Santa Clarita Valley Senior Deputy for Supervisor Kathryn Barger, conducted the installation in the board’s annual meeting July 31.
Wayman congratulated Gloria Mercado-Fortine on her successful year serving as the chairperson of the Board of Directors and welcomed her into a new year in the same role.
Continuing to assist the chairperson is Mike Fisher as vice chairman and Dr. David Goldberg as secretary.
Community members remaining in their roles on the Board of Directors were also recognized, including Carolina Orozco Hernandez, Maria Morales, Edward Bolden and newcomers Patricia Ochoa Ponce and Olga Lopez.

Many of those in attendance took special time out to honor the members of the board for their leadership roles in the organization.
Certificates of recognition were presented to Dixon’s 2017-2018 officers and board by Wyatt M. Woodson, field representative for Assemblyman Dante Acosta of the 38th District.
SDFHC was established in 1980 in the community of Val Verde and named for a long-time Val Verde resident and minister, the late Reverend Samuel Dixon.
In addition to the Val Verde Health Center, SDFHC operates two other health centers in Newhall and Canyon Country, with two satellite locations on the college campus of CalArts and College of the Canyons.
As the only non-profit health center founded and based in the Santa Clarita Valley, SDFHC serves the greater Santa Clarita Valley and is governed by a local board of directors.
The mission of SDFHC is to enhance wellness by providing quality primary health care, dental and mental health services to unserved and underserved residents, with a special emphasis on serving the uninsured.
Easily accessible services are available for the entire family in both English and Spanish.
All insurances are accepted to include Medi-Cal and Medicare, as are participants in programs such as FamPACT, EWC, VFC, CHDP, MHLA and Covered California.
A sliding fee scale is offered, keeping health care affordable for all. Enrollment assistance is also available.
SDFHC is supported by countless individuals as well as corporate sponsors who help make affordable health care possible.
