1928 - Little dam victim, thought unidentified & buried in SCV, actually ID'd & buried in Chatsworth [story]
Newhall Cowboys

A motorcyclist hit a stalled truck early Tuesday morning, causing a Sigalert that snarled traffic on the Southbound 5 and 14 freeways for hours, according to a California Highway Patrol police report.

The motorcyclist, whose name is being withheld pending notification, was killed.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. when a report came in of a stalled Toyota T100 blocking the HOV lane on the South I-5, just north of Roxford Street. According to the report, a driver of a Harley Davidson was traveling southbound and crashed into the stalled vehicle. Los Angeles County Fire Department officials pronounced the motorcyclist dead on the scene.

Four lanes of the South I-5 were closed for hours, causing gridlock for miles out of the Santa Clarita Valley.

I ride every AM, year-round. Thank you to all that watch for us motorcycle riders lane splitting. Some riders are hard too see. Look twice and don’t cross the double lines to the commuter lane, please.

  9. Does anyone know who the motorcyclist was ????

  10. RIP ?
    ?? for the family

  11. Chris Rodriguez Jennifer Castrellon

  12. It’s a wonder that it doesn’t happen multiple times per day. Every single morning cars in the HOV lane all the time cross the yellow stripe to get around the south 5/14 hov merge point. At the same time motorcycles fly past much slower traffic using the yellow stripe for roomier lane splitting. Put the two together and RIP.

  13. Condolences to motorcyclist’s loved ones.

  14. Nicole Austin, this is why you caught traffic.

  15. Please everyone drive safely ….????prayers to the motorcyclist family

  16. You are telling me!!! The whole 2 1/2 hrs to get to Burbank saddened me that some family was receiving very bad news.

  17. Left the house at 5:50am Took 2 and a half hours to get to glendale from 14@Sand Cyn

  18. Tessa Lucero says:

And they don’t mention in this story that there was also a wreck (no fatalities thank goodness) blocking the carpool and left lane on the southbound 14 just south of Newhall, so that slowed traffic back to Golden Valley. You can see it on the diagram where the red suddenly becomes green on the SB 14.

  19. David M says:

That’s the 5th time in my 15 years where I was really delayed in my morning commute. I can see traffic is starting to get worse even at 4:30 in the morning leaving Santa Clarita. I’m glad I only have 11 more months and then you can count me off the road and out of here. I surrender, time to get the hell out of this state. As a fellow Harley rider myself, there is no way, I would rid my bike in this crazy traffic. Most Californians can’t drive to begin with and constantly cut off bikers. My prayers go out to the family and the biker.
