LA County Library is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with a variety of themed special events and activities at several library locations, and a special curated series at its Chicano Resource Center, part of East Los Angeles Library. Events include art activities, book clubs, dance performances, author talks, film screenings, and more.

From September 15 through October 15, Hispanic Heritage Month recognizes the contributions that generations of Hispanic Americans have made in the United States. During this time, LA County Library locations will offer events commemorating Hispanic influence within the country, and focusing on the importance of Spanish culture in the Library community.

For local activities, Castaic Library is hosting an event Saturday, Sept. 16 at 2:00 p.m., while Acton Agua Dulce Library will hold its event Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 4:00 p.m.

The month is particularly relevant to East Los Angeles Library; it houses the Library’s Chicano Resource Center, which was established in 1976 to serve the Mexican-American (Chicano) community and to make information about the history and culture of this group available to the general public.

“Art, culture and history are particularly important to the East Los Angeles community,” says Community Library Manager, Martin Delgado. “Focusing on Hispanic heritage provides our library customers an opportunity to identify with their own [people] who have made, and continue to make, a difference in society. Customers can learn about, and take pride, in the many accomplishments of Latinos, and the ways Latino culture has impacted their lives,” Delgado said.
