Newhall School District Superintendent Paul Cordeiro
The California Department of Education has recently released results for its 2016-17 testing program under the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP).
For the third consecutive year (and since CASPPP was introduced) the Newhall School District has the highest percentage of students in the Santa Clarita Valley meeting or exceeding standards for all grades and subjects (reading-language arts and mathematics) tested.
“This is a remarkable achievement,” Newhall district Superintendent Paul Cordeiro said. “It is a tribute first and foremost to our outstanding teachers and then to our dedicated administrators, Governing Board members and our legions of supportive parents.”
The Newhall district’s history of high achievement predates the CASSP, reflecting year-over-year efforts to work strategically for what matters most: student success. Under the former Academic Achievement Index (API), the Newhall district’s API was the highest in the Santa Clarita Valley and among the highest in the state.
“I attribute our ongoing success to our culture of excellence, nurtured over many years and based on a philosophy of continuous improvement. We raise performance, celebrate our results and work on doing better,” Cordeiro said. “It’s an effort that never ends. I am grateful to our entire Newhall team for being all-in for the kids.”
