Original post, 12:33 p.m.: The Los Angeles County Fire Department is fighting a brush fire that started near the intersection of Robert C. Lee Parkway and Golden Valley Road, near Golden Valley High School.

Dubbed the Golden Fire, the two-alarm blaze has reportedly charred about 10 acres as of 12:30 p.m. No structures are threatened, according to County Fire Department spokesperson Vanessa Lozano. (See 1:15 p.m. update below.) The cause of the blaze is unknown at this time, Lozano said.

L.A. County Fire’s Division 3, stationed on Golden Valley Road just north of the high school, is taking point on the blaze.

A Firehawk helicopter tanker was brought in make a water drop directly on a flank of the Golden Fire, according to the Department’s Twitter feed.

12:45 p.m.: L.A. County Fire’s Golden Fire Incident Commander reports 15 acres burned, but still no structures are threatened. Firefighters are “making good progress on the head of the fire.”

Golden Valley Road is closed at Sierra Highway.

12:55 p.m.: The Incident Commander requested fixed-wing tankers to paint the ridge on the right flank to prevent fire from making a hard run.

A fixed-wing tanker made a pass at about 1:06 p.m., per video from PiuteBen shot from Railroad Avenue at L.A. County Fire Station 73.

1:10 p.m.: Per HelCo (COPT17), fire behavior has picked up and fire is now spotting ahead of itself. Incident Commander is pulling a 3rd alarm.

1:15 p.m.: 3RD ALARM requested for structure protection off Quigley Rd. at Cleardale St. BC44 advising possible impact in 10-15 minutes.

1:22 p.m.: Golden Fire – AC3 is now in command. Reporting fire is at 35 acres.

1:25 p.m.: L.A. County Fire’s PIO reports 200 firefighters are on the Golden Fire scene.

1:30 p.m.: Reports of evacuations at Golden Valley High School are inaccurate, according to Dave Caldwell, Hard District spokesman. “There are no evacuations, and never were,” he said.

1:37 p.m.: County Fire’s 3rd Division (DIV B) is established in Quigley Canyon, and moving from structure defense into perimeter control, the Incident Commander reports.

1:41 p.m.: “Copters making good progress on the head of the fire. Dozers punching in line. Fixed-Wing inbound from Fox Field,” according to the Incident Commander.

1:49 p.m.: The fire’s forward progress has been stopped at 50 acres, with 10 percent containment, the IC reports. LACoFD reports firefighters are now working on perimeter control. No structures are threatened at this time.

2:08 p.m.: The Division 3 Incident Commander reports the Golden Fire has now burned approximately 100 acres, with forward progress stopped at 15 percent containment.

3 p.m.: The Golden Fire is holding at approximately 100 acres and 15 percent containment, with no structures threatened, according to County Fire Department spokesperson Vanessa Lozano.

3:10 p.m.: The city of Los Angeles Fire Department has AirOps helicopter assigned to the Golden Fire in Automatic Aid to support @LACo_FD, @LAFDtalk reports.

3:20 p.m.: The Incident Commander reports 90 percent containment, still at approximately 100 acres.

3:25 p.m.: Final update from the Incident Commander: 100 acres with 90 percent containment. All aircraft released. All roads open except for one SB lane on Golden Valley Road.
