Newhall Cowboys

A fatal motorcycle crash on the southbound 5 freeway at the 210 east Thursday morning caused heavy traffic to back up throughout the Santa Clarita Valley.

At approximately 5:24 a.m., a Palmdale resident driving a 2004 Chrysler Aspen in the carpool lane of the 5 freeway slowed his vehicle down for traffic ahead of the driver of a 2014 BMW motorcycle, according to CHP officials.

For unknown reasons, the motorcyclist failed to slow for traffic and collided with the back of the Aspen, causing the motorcycle to go down.

    Was probably cutting between cars!

  2. CHRIS BURR says:

Way to blame the guy that got killed. Lame splitting is legal and all you people driving need to get off your phones and pay attention!

  3. May the victim RIP. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. It was sad when I passed by the scene.

  4. Chris Jones Chris Jones says:

So in response to lane splitting, there are very good reasons why it IS legal here but to have to explain to the uneducated is not worth the time but what is worth my time is to ask you fine folks to show some compassion, somebody lost their life, know body cares to hear what you think should be the law!!

    • Aly Gaspar Aly Gaspar says:

People are never compassionate, only selfish and quick to accuse the deceased of doing something he might not have even been doing! Rip to this poor man, I hope he’s in a much better place.

  5. Splitting lanes was just made officially leagle in California last year. It was never Illeagal before. There was just no law for or against it.
DMV did a full 10 year study on it and determined that when done properly it is actually safer then being forced to stay in lanes between cars in Front and behind you.
In this case. It was 5:30 AM.
Dark and very cold on a bike.
He was 60 years old. Most likely had “whiteline fever”
And was asleep so to speak on the bike.

  6. If you were not there to understand what really happened, I would recommend to keep your opinion to yourself. I passed by the accident and it hurts to see people making judgmental remarks to something so serious. It shows how desensitized people are becoming.

  7. Lori Brown this is the accident we got stuck in yesterday. I saw the motorcycle as I passed through. There wasn’t much left of it. Sad.
