Route 66 Classic Grill in Canyon Country will host a fundraiser for local victims of the October 1 Las Vegas shootings on Saturday, October 28, from noon to 4 p.m.
A lone gunman killed 58 people, including one Santa Clarita resident.
“By my personal count, I think there were at least 500 Santa Clarita residents that were at (the shooting), and even more people in Santa Clarita know somebody that was there,” said George Thomas, Route 66 owner. “We’d like to show our support for all the Santa Clarita people that were there or were affected by it.”
Event organizers have planned for community leaders to speak, silent auctions and “Las Vegas Strong” merchandise to be sold, along with a flyover from the Condor Squadron out of Van Nuys Airport, according to Thomas.
“We’ll also be having a 58-second moment of silence for the 58 victims killed during the shooting,” Thomas said. “100 percent of the proceeds from the silent auction and ‘Vegas Strong’ merchandise will be given to the Santa Clarita Coalition, and they’ll distribute the money to Santa Clarita victims.”
