Santa Clarita Mayor Cameron Smyth will participate in the Santa Clarita Sierra Club’s first-ever “Mayor’s Family Hike” on Sunday, Nov. 19.
The hike, which begins at 9:00 a.m., gives residents and community leaders the opportunity to discuss the challenge of balancing urban development with protecting one of the last remaining natural river systems in Southern California: the Santa Clara River.
“One of the main parts of my job as Mayor is to engage with residents on key issues that affect every person in Santa Clarita,” said Mayor Smyth. “I thank the Sierra Club for coordinating this hike and allowing me to discuss this important topic.”
The event will take place on the City’s trail system adjacent to the Santa Clara River and consists of an easy, relatively flat 2-3 mile hike that is also wheelchair and stroller accessible. The Mayor’s Family Hike is free and open to the public. In the event of rain, the hike will be canceled.
Participants are asked to meet at 9:00 a.m. at the Promenade Shopping Center (McBean Parkway and Magic Mountain Parkway) and park at the north end, closest to the river behind McDonald’s. Hikers are encouraged to bring water and a snack and are asked to dispose of trash in designated receptacles.

Sierra Club is full of eco-terrorists, nice agenda you have their Mr. Smyth.
I realize Saturday evening we have the Main Street event in Old Town Newhall, but why do City folks have to schedule things that interfere with people that choose to go to an actual church on Sunday morning? Poor planning folks — not unlike the poor planning with Railroad and Orchard Village undergoing weeks of construction, lane closures and the like. Perhaps their religion is environmentalism?
