1906 - Bercaw General Store opens in Surrey (Saugus) [story]
Bercaw Store

Sears Holdings continues its strategic assessment of the productivity of its Kmart and Sears store base and will continue to right size its store footprint in number and size.

In the process, as previously announced it will continue to close some unprofitable stores, which includes the Sears on 24137 Valencia Blvd. in Santa Clarita, as the company transforms its business model so that its physical store footprint and its digital capabilities match the needs and preferences of Sears members. The Santa Clarita location is expected to close sometime in March.

The company informed associates at 64 Kmart stores and 39 Sears stores Thursday that it will be closing these stores between early March and early April 2018.

Eligible associates impacted by these store closures will receive severance and will have the opportunity to apply for open positions at area Kmart or Sears stores. Customers can use the store locator function on our web sites to find the location of their nearest Kmart and Sears stores. Liquidation sales will begin as early as Jan. 12 at these closing stores.

  1. I’m not really surprised, but it’s still kinda a sad day when it closes. Hope it’s not gonna be a Starbucks!!

  2. Yeah really sad the employees can go work at the local Kmart, NO that’s gone too!

  14. It sucks, but if it has to go, I hope maybe they repurpose it to a Nordstrom…

    • Yes!!! ?? I wish. Doubt another retail though. The market, mostly millennials, are looking for experiences versus a shopping experience because they can shop online in the convenience of their own home. So my guess is something like a Dave & Busters, bowling alley, or they move the theater.

    • Ok I’m not a millennial but even I like and agree with your post!
Honestly who wouldn’t prefer a great experience over shopping??

  16. It’s a bummer regardless when people lose their job

  17. Liquidation does not mean putting everything on sale for the customers. They move most of the stuff to their other stores and sell the BS stuff no one wants. They start with a nothing discount and people get excited. Never worth it people.

  18. So what will fill in that big empty building?

  19. Dan says:

Sad to see another store shuttered. That’s a big space and it is difficult to imagine it ever getting rented. Most big-space retailers – and small-space ones for that matter – are unlikely to be expanding. And that space doesn’t have the best location in the Valencia mall. In any case, I wish the employees, Sears and the mall owners the best.

  20. Valerie Rosemann ..wow !!

  21. Jim Farley says:

This is sad to me but I’ve seen it coming for some time. I had a great career with Sears that also involved the Valencia store. After almost 30 years I was let go about 15 years ago. It turned out to be the best thing that could happen to me. Praying for all who are left behind and will be losing their jobs over this.

  22. We are losing so many stores they just sit there empty very sad. Look at Vons Pavilion still empty

  23. Autumn Wood Autumn Wood says:

Blake Wood we were just talking about this

  24. Byron says:

Rarely visited but when I did it was for Craftsman tools. Excellent deals. Very sorry to see an old stalwart fade away.

Also the watch repairman whose business has been there for decades will need a new place. He’s a great guy and a great asset.

  25. Noooooo!!! My favorite watch repair guy is in there! Will he be moving to another location??

  26. Kurt Buck Kurt Buck says:

Where will I go when I need my busted Craftsmen tools replaced?!

  27. Online or someone will buy the craftsman brand
