In partnership with the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center and Alzheimer’s Greater LA, College of the Canyons will be offering a workshop to help family members better communicate with their aging loved ones.
When: Saturday, Feb. 24 from 9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Topic: Communication & Dementia: Connecting with a person with memory loss
This presentation will focus on compassionate ways to communicate with your loved one who has Alzheimer’s or dementia. It will provide caregivers with strategies to better connect with their loved one. This workshop is useful for anyone who desires to be a better communicator when handling difficult conversations with loved ones.

Beginning with a basic understanding of Alzheimer’s disease and its effect, this program explores communication principles necessary to maintain meaningful connections. Using scenarios, this training offers tips and useful strategies to help with communication issues over the course of the disease.

Anyone questioning taking this workshop, I highly recommend it. I, myself, haven’t taken it, but I did take care of my grandmother as she slid into dementia. I wish I had had some kind of guidance during that time.
