What does American Activist, Dolores Huerta; U.S. Army Captain Rebecca Murga; Artist, Colette Miller, Wings on Red; L.A. County Office of Cannabis Management Officer, Joseph Nicchitta; and the L.A. LGBT Center have in common?
They are all meeting with Women Veterans at the Bob Hope Patriotic Hall on Friday, March 9, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. where they will share a day of empowerment, advocacy, and solidarity over conversation, lunch, wellness, and beauty.
The County of Los Angeles Department of Military and Veterans Affairs is hosting the 2018 Women Veterans Wellness Summit where hot off the Oscar Awards stage, Ms. Dolores Huerta (American labor leader, civil rights activist, and cofounder with Cesar Chavez of the National Farmworkers Association) will be the keynote speaker. She will be speaking about her efforts in the areas of advocacy and societal change for traditionally under-served populations.
U.S. Army Captain Rebecca Murga, writer, director, soldier, and advocate will also be at the Summit presenting two (2) of her short films – “War Inc.” and “American Girl” to the attendees. Her passionate advocacy for Veterans and women concerns has afforded her with published articles and experience in the field of challenging women issues.
Colette Miller, artist recognized for her human-sized public art interpretations of angel wings in the streets of Los Angeles, will have one of her famous artistic works on display at the Summit titled “Wings on Red” for the attendees to have their photo taken and thus become part of artwork itself.
New to the forefront and facing the present day direction of Cannabis regulations in America is the Los Angeles County Office of Cannabis Management (OCM). Mr. Joseph Nicchitta, Countywide Coordinator of the OCM, will likewise be at the Summit to discuss the efforts to implement the policies and regulations for commercial cannabis activities.
Celebrating LGBTQ+ individuals and families in the Los Angeles area, the Los Angeles LGBT Center will be available at the Summit to discuss discharge upgrades and housing benefits for LGBTQ+ veterans.
Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. Donated free parking is located at the nearby Los Angeles Trade Technical College at 400 W. Washington Street, Los Angeles, CA 90015 on the second level in the parking lot for Oak Hall (OH).
