With an eye toward March 20, the International Day of Happiness, and aiming to find out whether money really does buy happiness, the personal-finance website WalletHub today released its report on 2018’s Happiest Cities in America, and Santa Clarita ranks in the Top 10 in two of seven categories.

With No. 1 the happiest possible number, Santa Clarita is No. 7 for separation and divorce and No. 8 for sports participation in events like the Santa Clarita Marathon.

The city ranks 13th for suicide, 26th for depression, 57th for adequate sleep rate, 85th for hours worked per week and 88th for unemployment.

Overall, Santa Clarita places No. 16 out of the 182 cities surveyed.

WalletHub drew upon the various findings of positive-psychology research to determine where people in America are most content with their lives. The company compared 182 of the largest U.S. cities across 28 key indicators of happiness.

The study illustrates how moving to a certain city may affect a person’s happiness.
